John Hegener knew he was a painter born into a world maze of rules to be obeyed and denied. Thus, the journey to artistic expression was one of predictability and fate. After receiving his BFA in painting at the University of Cincinnati's College of Design Art Architecture and Planning, John became resident artist at the Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts. Here the fateful door to stone carving was opened by his growing sensitivity to oil paint solvents. For 12 years this unanticipated life path revealed the many hidden avenues of John's creativity. John's sculpture would soon be seen in exhibitions from Santa Fe, New Mexico to Nancy, France. Adaptique is privileged to have some of his paintings and a beautiful sculpture on display. Henry Troemner Scale

The company started as a manufacturer of scales and weights in Philadelphia, PA and earned a reputation for being a manufacturer with high quality standards. In 1856, Troemner received a contract to make scales for the U.S. Mint. The success of this contract led the company to expand its product line of scales to include bankers' scales, precision weighing equipment for jewelers, prescription scales for pharmacists, and laboratory scales and balances for chemists. By the time of Henry Troemner's death in 1873, the Troemner name had become internationally respected in the commercial world of weights and balances. We are not sure what this particular scale was used for, but it is quite substantial and made of cast iron with a large brass scoop. The patent no. is shown and there is a plate indicating the maker as Tromner Mfg. One 1#wt., two 2#wts., one 4# wt., one 5# wt., one 10# wt. included.
